Street Parking Structure NewArk, New Jersey.
An 8 framed story precast parking structure. TRC International,
Ltd. designed and produced erection and piece details drawings
for the precast members and connections on this 824 car parking
structure with commercial space at first level. The prestressed,
precast members included DT floors, IT girdars columns, shear
walls, stair towers with special spandrels, column covers and
lite walls.

Logan Airport Parking Structure, Boston, MA
This project is an expansion of the existing four levels Central
Parking garage made of CIP. The expansion involves inclusion
of 3 more levels (Level 5 to Level 7) of precast structures.
The parking structure will be in use during the entire course
of the expansion. As a result of this, the most difficult
and challenging task of the entire project is the erection
of the precast products.

Hartsfield International Airport Parking Structure Enhancement
Atlanta, Georgia (Designed at Pennsylvania Division)
This was a one million square foot one level addition to existing
structures servicing both terminals. HWA's challenge was to
design the structure within the capacity limitations of the
existing facility. HWA worked closely with the precaster and
erector to ensure that special erection procedures, which did
not allow use of a conventional crane, resulted in an acceptable
design considering that temporary conditions were more critical
than service conditions. |

Crabtree Valley Mall Parking Structure Raleigh, North Carolina
(Designed at Pennsylvania Division)
This four level structure originally had column/beam moment
frames in both directions at every column intersection. Partnering
with the precaster, HWA developed a "Wind Frame" bent to handle
all lateral loads. These "Wind Frames" were provided at crucial,
but limited, locations throughout the structure. This innovative
concept resulted in a savings of more than one million dollars
considering the ripple effect from design through production,
hauling and erection. |

Bryan Street Parking Structure Savannah, Georgia (Designed
at Pennsylvania Division)
This six level small plan structure is built in the heart of
the historical section of this old southern city. The city wanted
a structure that looked more like an office building than a
typical sloped parking structure. This was achieved by utilizing
horizontal spandrels to support the ramped double tee floor
system. This created unique design conditions which HWA solved
as part of its services. The structure received a PCI Award
for Outstanding Parking Structure in 1998. |

North Street Parking Structure Bethlehem, PA (Designed at
Pennsylvania Division)
Similar to Bryan Street, the city of Bethlehem, PA sought to
create a natural blending of a residential area on one side
of North Street to the commercial down town on the other. HWA
provided complete structural design and shop drawings for all
products including brick faced load bearing and non-load bearing
spandrels. These features achieved the city's goals. The structure
received two local awards from chapters of ASCE and ACI. |

Newark Airport Parking Structure Newark, NJ (Designed at
Pennsylvania Division)
This six-story facility included double tees on a structural
steel frame. The double tee/steel beam connections created the
lateral stability for the structure and the tees and their connections
were designed accordingly. More than 500,000 square feet of
double tees were provided. Most required design of special extended
daps, which allowed for distribution of mechanical and electrical
equipment.
The floors were level except for a slight slope to accommodate
drainage. For automobile access a steel/CIP helix was constructed
outside the footprint of the main structure. The helix was
clad with architectural precast panels, which were detailed
to include concave and convex horizontal curvature as well
as vertical slope for the ramp. HWA's work resulted in good
fit and zero recasts.

Lucent Technologies Parking Structure Allentown, PA (Designed
at Pennsylvania Division)
After divesting itself from Bell Labs, Lucent Technologies set
out to build a world headquarters within 2 miles of its main
manufacturing facility. To service the office tower, Lucent
included two three level parking structures one on each side
for easy employee access. Due to design and site restrictions,
the footprints of both included several non 45-degree angle
sections. Use of 15' and 10' double tees allowed for both limited
numbers of pieces and geometrical control. One of the structures
housed the mechanical equipment for the entire facility. This
required truck access under the structure, which was achieved
with a large transfer girder spanning 76'. Careful consideration
of in service as well as plant limitations were required and
achieved without difficulty. |
